Chilkur Balaji Temple

Located almost 30 kilometres from Hyderabad, Chilkur is a small picturesque village which is also a popular pilgrimage.

It is in this sacred village where the famous Chilkur Balaji temple is built. On the banks of Osman Sagar Lake, close to the Vikarabad road, this temple attracts hordes of devotees from all over the country.

Chilkur Balaji temple has a pleasing architecture too, boasting of being one of the oldest temples in Telangana. It is said that this temple was built more than half a millennium ago.

Built almost five hundred years ago, the temple is being considered as an alternative of Tirumala temple. The main deity of the temple is Lord Balaji Venkateswara along with Sridevi and Bhoodevi accompanying him.

There is a legend behind the construction of this temple. According to the tales, the temple was built by a devotee who after having health issues couldn’t visit the Tirupati temple which he used to do earlier.This temple is also popularly known as “Visa Balaji temple”.

NTR Gardens

NTR Gardens Hyderabad: Built in the memory of late Shri N T Rama Rao, former and one of the most popular chief ministers of Andhra Pradesh, NTR Memorial Gardens are one of the famous sightseeing places of Hyderabad.

Spread across an area of 36 acres, NTR Gardens present a soothing atmosphere and refreshing setting to spend some time. The garden has been built with an approximate cost of Rs. 40 crore. It was in 2002, when the NTR garden of Hyderabad was opened to the public.

The Garden offers various kinds of recreational options as well. Some of these are boat ride, Japanese garden, Roaring Cascade, a Fountain, etc.

There is a Children’s playing area that keeps kids entertained. The massive entrance plaza with Nandi Bulls is also quite captivating.

The garden has been created in such a way that it offers a breathtaking natural surroundings along with ample of entertaining activities.

Excellent facilities for food are also provided at the garden. Various eat out joints, car cafe and fruit restaurant which is a 2000-square-metre restaurant circumvented by three petal-shaped ponds offer not just mouth watering dishes but also beautiful setting to relish the same.

Tank Bund

Tank Bund also makes for an interesting place to visit in Hyderabad. Tank Bund road connects the two parts of the city Hyderabad and Secunderabad.

It also dams one of the most popular sightseeing places of Hyderabad, Hussain Sagar Lake, which has the famous monolith of Gautam Buddha in the middle.

This statue is said to be one of the largest monolith in the world. Breathtaking view of Hussain Sagar Lake from Tank Bund is breathtaking which also attracts many to the place. It is spectacular especially in night, when the lights around the statue are switched on.

The place is popular for 33 bronze statues of famous people of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana in the area around. Some of these sculpture are of Sri Krishnadevaraya, Nannaya, Tikkana, Yerrapragada,Annamayya, Alluri Seetharama Raju, Raghupathi Venkataratnam Naidu, Molla, Tripuraneni Ramaswamy Chowdary etc.

These statues were created in the memory of a few prominent personalities of the state including many renowned poets from Telugu literature, great writers, rulers, social workers and freedom fighters.

These statues were erected by the former chief minister N.T. Rama Rao during 1987-88. Earlier the tank bund road used to be quite narrow and was widened in 1946. Later the place was beautified with the addition of many captivating statues and lush green gardens.

Salar Jung Museum

Salar Jung Museum of Hyderabad is the third largest museum in India. It was declared open on 16th December, 1951 by the first prime minister of India, Jawaharlal Nehru.

In the year of 1968, the entire collection of the museum and the Salar Jung Museum library was shifted to the present building from Diwan Deodi. In 2000, two additional buildings were also added.

Spread across an area of 10 acres and built in two floors, the Salar Jung Museum present wide range of artefacts which have been majorly collected by Mir Yousuf Ali Khan who is also known as Salar Jung III along with Nawab Turab Ali Khan (Salar Jung I) and his descendants.

Mir Yousuf Ali Khan dedicated his entire life collecting antiques and artefacts and spent a considerable amount of his wealth collecting the same from all over the world.

The museum has often appeared in print and electronic media for not only its collection but because of its efforts to preserve the history through digitalization and various latest means.

It is nothing less than a treasure house that values and respects the unparalleled feat that Europeans, Asians and eastern countries have achieved in varied fields, ranging from art to science and literature.

Chowmahalla Palace

The construction of Chowmahalla Palace was mainly completed between 1857 to 1869 during the rule of fifth Nizam, Afzar-ud-Daulah, Asaf Jav V. However, its building is mostly credited to Nizam Salabat Jang in 1790.

The Palace originally covered 45 acres which extended from the Laad Bazaar on the north to the Aspan Chowk Road on the south. Now, the total remained area of the palace is close to 12 acres.

The Chowmahalla Palace is consisted of two courtyards which are divided into the northern courtyard and the southern courtyard. The southern courtyard of the palace has four palaces which are namely Afzal Mahal, Tahniyat Mahal, Mahtab Mahal, and Aftab Mahal.

The Chowmahalla Palace has Clock Tower, Council Hall and Roshan Bungalow inside it. The Roshan Bungalow has been named after Roshan Begum who was the mother of sixth Nizam.

Khilwat Clock, which is famous for ticking since the construction of the palace, can be seen inside the Clock Tower. At the Council Hall, various manuscripts and rare books which were personal collections of the Nizam have been kept.
